What Happened?

Shares of network testing solutions company Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ:VIAV) jumped 11% in the afternoon session after the company announced the industry's first channel emulator designed for next-generation 6G and Wi-Fi 7/8 testing.

The new platform, Vertex 6.0, recreates real-world wireless conditions in a lab, enabling the testing of complex technologies for cellular, Wi-Fi, military, and aerospace applications. With 400 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth and support for high carrier frequencies, the product is built to handle future wireless standards.

This launch marks the first significant upgrade to the Vertex platform since Viavi acquired the channel emulation business from Spirent Communications. By providing essential tools for the development of future technologies, Viavi positions itself at the forefront of the wireless testing market.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Viavi Solutions’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 49 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Viavi Solutions and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 22 days ago when the stock gained 8.6% on the news that investors bought the dip following a steep sector-wide selloff, fueled by news that asset manager Jennison Associates LLC took a sizable new stake of more than 684,000 shares in the company. The rally was further amplified by upbeat analyst commentary highlighting Viavi as a top pick in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Additionally, the company recently joined the EU-backed SHIELD-6G consortium, underscoring its role in next-generation 6G security testing. Together, these developments boosted investor confidence, driving the stock higher as market participants capitalized on the previous sector-wide pullback.

Viavi Solutions is up 138% since the beginning of the year, but at $43.13 per share, it is still trading 22% below its 52-week high of $55.33 from April 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Viavi Solutions’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $2,726.
